Dance like everyone is watching!
We are in the service & sales industry - if we don't work, we don't get paid - if we don't treat our clients with skill and respect, we lose them & their future business. So...through many years with a large, diverse number of buyers, sellers and their families, we have learned that "you can't judge a book by its cover" and "you never know who is in the audience".
Judging others by their appearance is an unfortunate human tendency, specially if a person is not in the "people business". A person's character, heart and intelligence is not immediately evident & jumping to conclusions can lead us down an unfortunate path. Remember that book "The Millionaire Next-door"?
Every day we see polite servers & flight attendants being treated as if they weren't there, we see courteous drivers being rudely cut off, or worse still, being verbally abused for their parking, and building caretakers being regarded as personal slaves! Could be that a person's boss is watching, a horrified colleague or a future client. The adage about dancing like noone is watching does not apply here - act like everyone is watching all the time - because we can be sure someone always is!
We have graduated quickly into such a self absorbed society that the niceties, courteous greetings, everyday gratitude and just being friendly seem to be on the wane. Let's make a concerted effort to bring them back - at least in our little world. As I said to the angry man with limited vocabulary who criticized my parking ability - "Do hope that the rest of your day goes better".
In our changing real estate market, the only thing we know for sure is that - we are up for the challenge and have you covered. This is not our first rodeo!
Have a great weekend. Sheila and Michelle.
